Three years ago Poppy the collie was rehomed from our Edinburgh centre. When she came into our care she hadn’t had the easiest start in life and was very underweight and dirty.
Since being rehomed, Poppy has settled in well and even has a canine big brother to look out for her.
In fact, she has done so well that Poppy and her owner Kate have been accepted to do voluntary work for Therapets - an organisation that arranges for dog visits to hospitals, care homes, hospices, prisons, universities and schools.
Poppy has now completed her first visit to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she visited wards with elderly patients. She is loving her new role and seems perfectly relaxed with the patients. They are responding to her visits and she is particularly welcomed by those patients who have, or had, dogs of their own.
Kate said: “After the start she had in life we are amazed how well she responds to humans. We are so glad she was able to come home with us and we would both like to thank the Scottish SPCA again for the great work you do.”
Poppy now spends her Christmases in a loving home, but we need your help to be there for more animals like her.
