Newspaper appeal for Dunbartonshire centre

The Scottish SPCA is appealing to animal lovers to donate old newspapers to its Dunbartonshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

We use newspapers to line the enclosures of small and exotic animals in its care, like Savannah the Guinea pig.

Centre assistant manager, Ally Bibby, said, “We are running very low on our newspaper supply so we are hoping kind people nearby can donate their old papers.

“We currently have 45 small and exotic animals in our care at the moment and we are struggling to keep up with the rate at which they need their papers replaced.

“Newspaper is a great material to use as a base for cages to catch the odd mishap!

“We also use it as bedding for new arrivals of exotic animals. They can’t burrow in it so it’s a great way for us to monitor them.

“We cannot accept any papers or magazines with staples in them as these could be harmful to the animals.

“Donating old newspapers will allow us to keep Savannah, and all of our other small and exotic animals, in a clean and hygienic environment while they wait to find their forever homes.”

Newspapers can be dropped at the reception at Scottish SPCA, Dumbarton Road, Milton G82 2UA.
