Volunteer

Could you give some spare time and volunteer with us?

Volunteering is a rewarding way to support animal welfare and our work in Scotland and we have a range of activities you could get involved in. Some are obviously working with the animals in our care, but we also need support in a whole variety of different areas that you may not expect.

Why volunteer with us?

  • It’s a chance to try out something new
  • You’ll gain a great sense of achievement
  • You’ll be doing something useful and rewarding
  • You’ll be contributing to the wellbeing of Scotland’s animals
  • You’ll be part of a dedicated and professional team
  • You can develop both skills and confidence

Who can volunteer with the Scottish SPCA?

For some roles, age restrictions as well as a need for certain skills and experience may be required.

Our volunteering is open to anyone aged 16 or over although for some of our roles, different age restrictions apply, depending upon the skills and experience required. We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.

We are proud to be an inclusive organisation and we never discriminate in our volunteering recruitment.

How do I become a Scottish SPCA volunteer?

Our application process is designed to be nice and straight forward. All of our volunteering opportunities come with a role profile which tells you exactly what skills, experience and qualities you need to have to get on board.

Before you join us as a volunteer, you will be asked to attend an informal interview. This is a great opportunity for you to find out more about the role, meet the staff and get a sense of whether the opportunity is what you are looking for. It is also a chance for us to decide if you are right for us!

Once you join us, you’ll have a designated contact person for your role. One of our fabulous team will be on-hand to support you through a comprehensive induction programme to get you fully up to speed. You’ll also get full training to make sure you can carry out your role safely and effectively. Before you know it, you’ll be an invaluable member of the Society.
