A Boa constrictor is ssssseeking a forever home to slither into after he was found abandoned.

Jason MaBoa, named after the actor Jason Momoa, is looking for a fast and furious experienced owner who is confident in handling this muscly creature.

The reptile has been at our Edinburgh Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre for nine days.

Staff at the centre said: “Like his namesake, this is a handsome, muscly guy with a friendly nature.

“Jason MaBoa is a young 3ft Boa Constrictor, who is looking to grow to around 4ft-6ft.

“He strikes for food and is looking for an experienced owner who is confident around feeding.

“He will need a suitably sized vivarium with plenty of room to roam as he grows. This will include lots of great enrichment where he can slither and spaces to curl up in.”

Jason MaBoa is one of 16 snakes in our centres who are looking for homes.

Hiss Hemsworth is a bullsnake who has been at our Dunbartonshire centre for 32 days and Rumple Snakeskin is a Reticulated Python who has been in for 125 days.

When considering adopting a snake, do your research on your chosen species. How big will it get? What does it eat? What sort of environment will it need?

When purchasing a vivarium for your reptile make sure you take into account how large the animal is likely to grow. Some species of snake, such as pythons, can grow to be several feet in length so their home will need upgraded regularly as they grow.

Remember also to ensure your vivarium is secure and has locks on it, as many species of snakes are escape artists and can squeeze into the tiniest of gaps!

Most species of reptile will require specialist heating and lighting to control the temperature of their vivarium. They may also need to be able to climb or dig depending on the type of environment the species originally comes from.

Before you bring your reptile home, ensure that there is a veterinary surgery nearby who will treat them in the event that they do become unwell. Some species may need a vet who specialises in exotic animals.
