We are appealing to animal lovers to donate second hand blankets and towels for dogs in the care of our Dunbartonshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.
Items can be dropped in to the bin at the front of the centre any time or handed in to reception daily between 1pm and 4pm. Blankets can also be purchased from the centre’s Amazon wish list or via any other online retailer offering direct delivery to the centre
Manager of the centre, Nicola Morrison, said, “It’s really important that we have a constant supply of fresh blankets as many of the dogs who have come into our care recently have sadly been suffering from giardia.
“This disease is highly contagious and can spread quickly, so we have to discard the blankets of infected animals rather than washing and reusing them like we normally would.
“Luna the lurcher is just one of the dogs you’ll be helping to keep cosy in her kennel. She was rehomed but sadly returned to us as her new home didn’t work out. This situation was very stressful for her and she then developed giardia.
“She has now fully recovered but is still waiting on her forever home and unfortunately hasn’t had much interest. Your donations will help to keep her feeling happy and comfortable until we find her a new home.
“We can accept second hand blankets or towels as long as they’re in good condition and laundered. We can also accept hand-knitted or crocheted blankets.
“Unfortunately, we are unable to accept duvets or pillows. If an animal rips one of these items, this can be a serious choking risk.
“If you don’t have any old blankets or towels you can donate we also have some available to purchase on our Amazon wishlist, or we can accept them from any other retailer offering delivery.
“We are so thankful for any donations you can spare so that we can continue to provide the best possible care for the animals at our centre.”
Blankets can be dropped in to the centre collection bin, or handed in at reception daily between 1pm and 4pm at Scottish SPCA, Dumbarton Road, Milton, G82 2UA. Blankets can also be donated via the centre’s Amazon wish list here: bit.ly/3Hv7Jlg or sent from another online retailer that can deliver.
