We were alerted to the incident after a member of the public found the dogs running loose on a country road in Carlops, a small town on the outskirts of the Pentland Hills.

The puppies were taken to the nearest house by the individual. The occupants were not the owners but agreed to look after the dogs until a member of our team arrived.

Scottish SPCA inspector, Emma Phillips, said, “The puppies are all male and aged approximately 15 to 16 weeks old. They are all crossbreeds.

“They were discovered on 4 October at around 18:30 and it is unclear whether the dogs have been abandoned or managed to escape.

“The puppies were not in the best of condition and, upon further inspection, have been found to have worms.

“We understand that people’s circumstances can change, but this is not the right way to give up an animal and these dogs would have been caused a great amount of distress.

“Thankfully the boys are now safe and being cared for by one of our rescue and rehoming centres.

“We are urging anyone who recognises these puppies or has any information to please contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
