There are many reasons why you might need to give up your pet and we understand it can be a tough decision. Unfortunately, our Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centres are at capacity and we are unable to accept any more animals at this time.

Sometimes there are alternatives to consider before giving up your pet. For example, a vet check can rule out illnesses or injuries that may cause behavioural problems. The Scottish SPCA provides a number of services that could assist you so that you don’t need to give up your pet.

Help from the Scottish SPCA when you might need to give up your pet

  • You can access pet supplies and food from one of our many pet food banks

If rehoming your pet is the only option

  • Please contact the breeder as responsible breeders typically take animals back that they have rehomed.
  • Contact a local rescue to enquire about space with them.
